THE LEGAL ROLES
"We want to punish companies that do not respect our lives and our children's lives, even though they know the law and their destructive effects on body image issues," says Adi Barkan. "We have gathered all the evidence to sue the companies that did not meet the criteria dictated by the 'Photoshop Law' and continue the horror of eating disorders in Israel and abroad."
We are working together with senior attorneys and the Social Litigation Clinic in the I.D.C. Herzeliya to create a coalition that will assist in the enforcement of the law and promote further legislation.
The 'Photoshop Law' helped raise awareness to eating disorders, and now we are fighting to make sure it is enforced. Following our activities, Doctors are requried to perform a physical examination to produce BMI certificates for both male and female models. "The law restricting the weight is the first law in the world, and it aroused great interest and greater awareness," says Adi Barkan. "However, the law does not dictate punishment and is therefore not enough. We will continue to act to tighten legislation and enforcement."
